The Angel’s Depot
Who We Serve . . . What We Do . . . How You Can Help

They are of the generations who fought our wars, paid taxes and built this great country of ours. They handed down a legacy of freedom & hope. Yet today, 50,000 older Americans live in poverty in San Diego County, with precious little left to eat by mid-month.

The Angel's Depot was founded in 2006 to help this proud generation of by providing a FREE emergency mid-month meal box, especially formulated for seniors who are at-risk for malnutrition and live with the anxiety of food insecurity. These 24-pound, nutritious, nonperishable Senior Emergency Meal Boxes contain food for 21 meals . . . breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks for a week. The food selections are senior favorites and they are high in protein, fiber and foliates with moderate sugar.

Since 2006, The Angel's Depot has provided impoverished seniors in San Diego County 68,998 FREE Emergency Senior Meal Boxes containing food for 1,448,958 senior meals, using 1,655,952 pounds of nutritious food. Each month over 900 seniors receive this food lifeline at 24 Distribution Sites countywide.

In an effort to help our low-income seniors live better, we provide them with advocacy and a direct caring connection, in our Director of Programs, Andrew Holmes, MSW. Andrew initially helps seniors qualify for their meal boxes, answers questions, gives reminder calls and refers them to other local senior resources. We produce the “Depot Dispatch” a senior newsletter, and neatly tuck it into our monthly Senior Emergency Meal Boxes. This senior newsletter includes health, wellness and safety tips, senior resources, favorite recipes, historical trivia, fun photos and humor. By popular demand, we also email it to our volunteers and friends in the community. Please click here to read the 2014 newsletters for November and December and the 2015 newsletters for January and February.

The seniors we serve have an average income of $866 per month.

We engage the community in helping to solve this senior poverty and hunger crisis.
You can help . . . send a donation, volunteer your time, initiate a food drive.
Please join us in this noble effort.  Remember, the action you take,
is the DIFFERENCE you make, in an older American's life.
