and built this great country of ours.
They handed down a legacy of freedom & hope.
Yet today, 50,000 older Americans live in poverty
in San Diego County, with precious little left to eat by mid-month.
The Angel's Depot was founded in 2006 to help this generation of “quiet heroes” by providing a FREE emergency mid-month meal box, especially formulated for seniors who are at-risk for malnutrition and live with the anxiety of food insecurity. These 22 lb., nutritious, nonperishable contain 21 meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner for a week. The food is high in protein, fiber and foliates with moderate sugar.
In an effort to help our low-income seniors live better, we provide them with advocacy and a direct caring connection, in our Senior Case Manager, Andrew Dubbous. Andrew initially helps seniors qualify for their meal boxes, answers questions, gives reminder calls and refers them to other local senior resources. We produce the “Depot Dispatch” a senior newsletter, and neatly tuck it into our monthly Senior Emergency Meal Boxes. This senior newsletter includes health, wellness and safety tips, senior resources, favorite recipes, fun photos and humor. The seniors we serve have an average income of $765.73 per month.
We engage the community in helping to solve this senior poverty and hunger crisis.
